MOTHERHOOD THERAPY

Full Circle Motherhood Support

Understanding Motherhood is a Rite of Passage
In our time together, will we acknowledge that the journey of becoming a mother is a profoundly transformative and life-altering experience. We will approach your deeply unique and expansive experience with the reverence it deserves. Becoming a mother is a massive life transition in which there are blessings and hardships, losses and gains. In other words-a rite of passage. Rites of passages are a sacred time of change that offers the opportunity to go inward, adjust to the new and emerge with a new understanding of yourself and the world around. I will help honor this rite of passage what ever part of the journey you currently are traversing. Rites of passages are meant to be witness, acknowledged and appreciated.
Understanding Motherhood as a Developmental Stage
Becoming a mother is also transformative in that it changes every aspect of your being. This natural stage is intended to re-orient yourself, build new skills, re-prioritize you identities and open up capacities to hold care. This beautiful stage is called Matrescence. Just like adolescence-your brain, body, relationships, social standing, even your spirituality and political beliefs are going through a massive upheavel. Knowing this concept can be like a soothing medicine or calming salve to deeply uncomfortable growing pains. These changes are not bad but can feel terrible and lonely. By understanding this term, I can help sheperd your through this time of disorientation and give you a soft place to land by guiding you towards your most authentic self.
Understanding Motherhood within the Patriarchy

To fully support modern mothers, understanding the role of cultural and social norms is a must. We can't expect mothers to honor motherhood as rite of passage or appreciate the role of matrescence when they are sold a harmful narrative that values perfectionism over grace, production over rest, doing it all over asking for help. Over the course of civilized history the idea of a "good mother" has been shaped by gender role norms, cultural expectations and legislative policies that keep mothers as the primary caregiver often having to carry the brunt of the emotional and mental labor of the family and managing the majority household tasks. These social norms also encourage internal beliefs that strip mothers from joy, wellbeing and thriving and keep them locked in state of burnout overwhelm, and isolation, anger, and shame. Using the lens of matricentric feminism I can help undo the harmful beliefs such as "you need to be always happy in your mother role", or "you are never enough", by cultivating new beliefs and skills of self-trust, self-advocacy, and most importantly a hope for a future that is sustainable for everyone.
Understanding Motherhood as Portal of Healing

This can feel incredibly challenging when you are also working through massive changes already. Through the modality of emotionally focused individual therapy we will collaboratively delve into your unique emotional landscape by gently and compassionately attending to unhealed or unresolved hurts and pains. This is the most important work we can do as mothers and it can feel like we are forced to reckon with our darkest shadows.
